Picking “Your Song” – Music to Dance to At Your Wedding

by jaime on April 17, 2012

As I’m trying to figure out what the right fit is for our first dance, I thought that I might not be the only person struggling through this. So, I decided to compile five songs – in different genres, of course! – that could all make for your perfect dance. From country to indie, rock to pop, there’s a little something for everyone.

Song #1: “The Lucky Ones” by Radney Foster

“Baby, the lucky ones
For a moment or two
Get to fall in love with somebody like you.”

Song #2: “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel

“But for now, we are young
Let us lay in the sun
and count every beautiful thing we can see.”

Song #3: “Fire & Dynamite” by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors

“You are a novel in a sea of magazines,
You make me nervous; you make my heart beat.
You  are red in a sea of black and white;
You are a fire. You are dynamite.”

Song #4: “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson

“‘Cause I love you more
Than I could ever promise
And you take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.”

Song #5: “Anyone Else” by Collin Raye

“Baby, I bought wine and roses on my way home
Yeah I know we can’t afford it but life doesn’t last too long
This world has gone half-crazy
And knocked us both to our knees
I’m fumbling for the words to try to tell ya
I love you for hangin’ onto me.”

Bonus Song!

Song #6: “I Love How You Love Me” by Beth Orton

“I love how your heart beats whenever I hold you
I love how you think of me without being told to
I love the way your touch is always heavenly
But, darling, most of all I love how you love me.”

What songs are you thinking about for your own wedding – or, if you’re already married, what song did you choose?

Love,
Jaime

My husband and I danced to Moondance by Van Morrison. It as something a little different and they mention October in the lyrics and that’s the month we got married!

Reply

Valene February 13, 2014 at 7:54 am

We are getting married this October and will be dancing to John Legend’s All of Me. The lyrics are perfect for our relationship!

Deb June 3, 2012 at 4:19 pm

When my husband and I got married, we chose “I love the way you love me” by John Michael Montgomery. It still makes me tear up every time I hear it.

Rita June 4, 2012 at 12:06 pm

Thanks SOOOO Much for this suggestion! I’d forgotten how much I like his music; getting married in the fall at an old lumber lodge – will be awesome!

Reply

Michela June 4, 2012 at 11:34 pm

the song “Forever” by him is also amazing!!!

Reply

Jaimie June 6, 2012 at 10:18 pm

Our first dance will be “Then” by Brad Paisley

I’m walking down the aisle to “the ludlows”, it’s from Legends of the Falls, the location is very rustic, in Montana… suits it perfectly.

Lizzy October 16, 2012 at 8:47 am

mine will definitely be then by brad paisley too!!!!

Our first dance was to “Home to You” by John Michael Montgomery.
Chorus:
“You are my best friend
And you are where my heart is
And I know at the day’s end
I get to come home to you “.

Sidney June 20, 2012 at 8:23 am

That will no doubt be my wedding song, I just love the way it makes me feel about him…my favorite song by John Michael Montgomery

My parents got married to Forever and Ever Amen by Randy Travis, and I am kinda jealous, I want to get married to that song too!! Good luck picking your song!

Reply

Natasha June 6, 2012 at 7:46 pm

I love this song! Its the song we want to use for our wedding in july but his brother also used it last summer. Its an amazing first dance song.

Reply

Shelly June 18, 2012 at 11:45 am

That was my song, too! :)

Reply

Liv June 24, 2012 at 6:54 pm

That was my parents’ song, too! Whenever I hear it I sing all the words as loud as I can and if I walk into the same room as one or both of them their smiles are so big :) (I live with them… Not even close to being old enough to have moved out yet! :P )

Reply

Stephanie January 11, 2014 at 6:03 pm

My parent’s first dance was “Forever & Ever Amen”. My cousins’ first dance was “All I Ask of You” from The Phantom of the Opera. It’s a great song, especially if you are really into theatre like they were. Another great song is “I’ll Cover You” from RENT.

Mom June 3, 2012 at 6:45 pm

Older, but my dghtr is having Kenny Chesney’s “Me & You” sang at her wedding……It’s perfect <3

Reply

Reply

Cheryl June 6, 2012 at 5:09 pm

I second Me & you by Kenny Chesney, such a beautiful song,

Reply

Nicole June 19, 2012 at 5:28 pm

This is one of my fiance’s choices for our first dance…I’m a country-music girl, so he felt that it would be a perfect way to get my musical taste incorporated into our wedding without an outbreak of line-dancing…and Kenny is one of my all-time favorites!! We’re also considering “You Had me at Hello.”

Reply

Jessica June 3, 2012 at 7:43 pm

I am leaning towards “one and only” by adele. I love her and this song fits our struggles to open up and let ourselves be loved. It has a good arrangement of slow and upbeat parts.

Reply

Amanda June 5, 2012 at 11:22 pm

One And Only is my favorite Adele song!!! It would be so beautiful at a wedding

Reply

Gabby June 13, 2012 at 11:02 pm

Gavin Degraw soldier… its beautiful

Erica June 3, 2012 at 11:59 pm

The one request my guy has had is that our first dance be “You Make Me Smile” by Uncle Kracker but we love swing dancing and reggae rock so I think it would be fun to switch it to “Say Hey (I Love You)” by Michael Franti & Spearhead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehu3wy4WkHs) half way through ;)

Reply

jaime June 4, 2012 at 7:13 am

That’s such a cute way to throw people off AND incorporate your own style. Thanks for sharing, Erica!

Reply

Ashley June 8, 2012 at 3:50 pm

I also want to use “You make me smile”. I heard it on the way to the gym to meet my boyfriend one night and could not stop smiling when I got there. I get to put in my suggestions but I’m letting him take care of the bulk of the music at the reception. He has much better taste in music than I do. :)

I’ve never heard that Josh Kelley song, but I love his voice. Checking it out now!

There’s a really great steel guitar solo in the bridge that gets me every time. The newer studio version isn’t as good.

“Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is a good one, “My Best Friend” by Queen, and “Still the One” by Orleans are all great songs that would make a cute first dance.

Reply

Reply

Sarah L. June 6, 2012 at 7:31 pm

My husband and I got married on May 17th, 2008 and our first dance was to “You’re My Best Friend.” Everytime I hear it on the radio it takes me back to that wonderful day! :)

Reply

Erin July 26, 2012 at 10:49 am

We were considering Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros for our first dance but decided it was a little too fast so we will be dancing to Gotta Have You by the Weepies

Reply

Marilyn July 5, 2012 at 1:00 pm

When my husband and I were just dating, he was stationed at Luke AFB in Arizona, and I was still living in Kansas City, I heard “Home” all the time on the radio, and more often than not, while I was thinking of him or chatting on the phone. I smile every time I hear it, and home really is wherever I’m with him.

Reply

Michelle July 9, 2012 at 11:51 pm

“Home” is a great song, shows enduring love and it has a great indie vibe. It is one I am thinking of playing at the wedding.

Reply

Cortney June 4, 2012 at 12:14 pm

I walked down to “This kind of love” by Sister Hazel. Joshua Radin has some really great stuff too!

Joshua Radin’s “Lovely Tonight” was our first dance song at our wedding. The lyrics are so beautiful! I walked down the aisle to Ingrid Michaelson’s cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

Reply

Allie June 4, 2012 at 4:53 pm

“The Luckiest” by Ben Folds. Love it, though I think it may be a great song to walk down the aisle to. :) Also, “Lucky” by Jason Mraz.

Reply

jaime June 4, 2012 at 5:03 pm

Great picks, Allie – I’ve thought about those two (as well as Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up”) as potential options, too. They’re the perfect blend of sweet and romantic.

I’m going to have to make a second Reader Recommendations list, aren’t I?!?

Reply

nicole June 5, 2012 at 11:53 pm

I walked down the aisle to La Vie En Rose. Pretty – and different. Our first dance was to The Luckiest by Ben Folds. LOVE it. I don’t remember the song for the father daughter dance – makes me sad. I wish I would have chosen “I Love” by Tom T Hall.

Reply

jaime June 6, 2012 at 7:41 am

Thanks for the tip, Nicole! I made sure to add that Tom T. Hall to my list of Father Daughter dance songs: http://www.theexcitedbride.com/2012/06/06/seven-great-songs-for-your-father-daughter-wedding-dance/

My honey and I are dancing to Brandi Carlile’s The Story.

We were high school sweethearts (back in 1989) and then life sent us in different directions but 18 years later, we found each other again. We both have had a long and windy road of life but somehow after all the years, it’s perfect now! This song just says it all.

Reply

Teressa June 5, 2012 at 12:48 am

My husband and I walked back down the aisle to ” The Best Thing” by Relient K, and then our first dance was to “Everything” by Michael Buble”. We did a unity candle/sand ceremony with our 4 boys to signify the joining of the 2 families to “Better Together” by Jack Johnson :-)

Reply

Kat June 5, 2012 at 6:58 am

My boyfriend wants Relient K to play at our reception…The Best Thing is such a good song. :)

Reply

My fiance is trying to learn that song on guitar to sing to me at the reception! It’s such a cute song.

Reply

Amanda June 16, 2012 at 5:50 am

“Better Together” is mine and my boyfriend’s song, so that will probably be the song we dance to at our wedding. :) It fits us perfectly because for most of our relationship, we’ve lived in different places, so things really are “better when we’re together.” :)

Reply

Michelle July 9, 2012 at 11:54 pm

That is one that I have been considering for our song as well. It is a song that I have always associated with our relationship because we have broken up a few times but have never really strayed into anyone elses’ arms because we knew we were meant for each other, and are “better together” as you might put it. we are each other’s right hand and have been best friends since high school.
Better together for a little over 7 years… makes it so special :-)

Our first dance song is going to be “You and Me” by Dave Matthews. “and when the kids are old enough, we’re going to teach them to fly” captures us both so perfectly, even though we don’t have any kids yet!

Reply

Toni July 3, 2012 at 12:41 pm

My fiance and I are HUGE DMB fans, and we are torn between “You and Me” and “Crush”. I think “You and Me” is perfect for a wedding, but he has always sang “Crush” to me :) Either way it will be perfect!

My fiance’ actually loves dancing and we fell for each other while cutting it up to The Knife’s “Heartbeats” at one of his impromptu living room dance parties. :) For our first dance, we are dancing to Jose Gonzalez’s acoustic version which is just beautiful. Not cheesy or mushy romantic, but just a beautiful song which is perfect for us.

Reply

Jose Gonzalez always makes me cry – Crosses is one of my favorite songs. What a pick, Jess – I ADORE this!!!

Thanks, Jaime. I see a lot of people posted how their wedding songs still make them tear up and I never thought that would be me, but last week I was sitting on a crowded train on my morning commute and the song came on my Ipod and it just made me tear up thinking about our first dance! I pretended like something was in my eye, but I’m sure the other commuters saw right through me :)

How romantic, a song about a drunken one night stand…Love both versions, doesn’t seem entirely appropriate. But I’m sure the audience didn’t notice, so well done.

Timing Is Everything – Garrett Hedlund

So much of our long relationship has come down to timing.
Whether it went our way or not.

We got married in December. I walked down the aisle to “You and Me” by Lifehouse, we walked back down to “Best friend” by Queen and our first dance was “Why don’t we just dance?” by Josh Turner, because it’s “our song” and we wanted something we could swing dance too. :)

My wedding party walked down the aisle to Coldplay’s “Strawberry Swing”

and I walked down the aisle to Landon Pigg’s “Falling in love in a Coffee shop”

This is was the most incredible song to have a moment like walking down the aisle. It still makes me tear up.

Excellent choice! My husband and I chose the same song. However, our DJ used an acoustic version he had, by Jefferey Gaines. It was a little slower/softer. I don’t think anybody knew the difference. We still consider the Peter Gabriel version to be “our wedding song”.

I plan on walking down the aisle to Death Cab For Cutie’s ‘Follow You Into The Dark.’ We are planning on walking back up the aisle to Blink 182′s ‘First Date.’ I love the lyric in that song “let’s go, don’t wait, this night’s almost over, honest, let’s make this night last forever.”

I love “Unbelievable” by Josh Gracin, so that’s the song for our first dance! I also love “Look at Me” by Carrie Underwood and “Forever Loving You” by Done Again for during the ceremony sometime.

Today is my 19th wedding anniversary :) Our DJ forgot to bring the song that was to be our first dance song – Rod Stewart’s “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You”. That left us with our first big decision as man and wife..right there at the reception! He came to us and asked us what we wanted instead. He handed us a list and before I made it past the first couple of songs, my husband said “Play that one”, then he took my hand and led me to the dance floor. A moment later, Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight” began to play and the rest is a beautiful memory. :) Our last dance of the night was “Always and Forever” by Heatwave…a perfect end to a perfect day. :)

I first heard this song on the radio and it made me get all teary eyed. October 17, 1981 I married my best friend and Always and Forever by Heatwave was our chosen song. Even today, after 30 plus years of marriage the song still brings a tear to my eye. You have got to listen to it, appreciate and what it says and add it to your wedding song list on your special day. You will not regret it! Congrats to all the future Mr. and Mrs. Out there.. :)

We’re getting married in August and I’m walking down the aisle to “1000 years” by Christina Perri, but we’re playing her song “Penguin” before the wedding because that’s what I call my fiance (he won me a stuffed penguin on a date and it was my snuggle buddy while he was deployed). Our first dance is “Far Away” by Nickelback and our father daughter dance is “Heaven” by Warrant. My future brother and sister in law danced to “Tangled up in You” by Staind at their wedding though and it was beautiful!

Melissa June 6, 2012 at 1:24 am

My hubby and I danced to “Come What May” from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, sung by Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. Hubby is a soldier and deploys a LOT (every year since we got married) so we knew it was going to be challenging, which is why the song meant so much to us.

Reply

Nicole June 19, 2012 at 5:14 pm

“Come What May” is my top choice for my first dance song…I’ve loved that song ever since I saw the movie and tear-up every time I hear it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be my fiance’s top choice, but we’ll see if I can make it grow on him! :)

I’m thinking Elton John’s “Can You Feel the love Tonight” for our first dance when it happens (three years together on the 18th… kind of getting suspicious of him secretly planning things…..). But we shall see what he likes as well, because its not “MY” big day, its “OUR” big day!

My hubby and I had our first dance to True Companion by Marc Cohn. The one thing I gave him to choose was our song (I helped by giving him a list of a bunch of songs) and he picked this one. I wouldn’t have changed it for anything and the fact that he sang it to me while we were dancing makes it all that much better :)

Father-Daughter Dance: The famous I Loved Her First by Heartland
Mother-Son Dance: Lullabye by Billy Joel
Walked down the aisle to a classical guitar rendition of Storybook Love from The Princess Bride
Walked out of the ceremony to Born to Run by The Boss ;)

I must say that I really liked my soundtrack :)

I walked down the aisle to “At Last” by Etta James, but sang live. We took communion to “Love Never Fails” by Brandon Heath, also sang live and then walked out to “God Gave Me You” by Brandon Heath before it was popular. Perfect in every way!

We got married 5 years ago. The guys entered the sanctuary to “I Walk the Line” by Johnny Cash, the girls entered to “Going to the Chapel”, and I walked down the aisle to “So This Is Love” from the movie Cinderella (old school Disney version). Our first dance was to “Keeper of the Stars” by Tracy Byrd (it was the first song we ever danced to, at a friend’s wedding). I LOVED our wedding music and got so many compliments on it. I highly recommend personalizing the music, and not going with tradition strictly for tradition’s sake (however, if you love Pachelbel’s Canon and The Wedding March, then by all means, use them!) :)

I have not given any thought to what I will walk down the aisle to until I read all these posts, there are a lot of great suggestions! My hubby and I went for a funnier song and danced to “Grow Old with You” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CYI5bKZMes) from “The Wedding Singer”. It was great and it still makes me smile. Our other contenders were:

James Morrison’s “You Make it Real”
Bob Marley’s “Is this Love”
Jack Johnson’s “Better Together”
Ray LaMontagne’s “You Are the Best Thing”
Terri Clarks’s “Now That I Found You”
Ben Harper’s “Forever”
Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together”

A good new one is Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up”

I’ve always been a huge disney princess fan, especially Beauty and the Beast. My wedding party is going to walk down the aisle (i think that’s spelled right) to some type of intsrumental version (most likely someone playing the piano) of “Beauty and the Beast”. For our first dance, we want to surprise everyone and actually learn a dance. I’ve been a dancer my whole life and he says he’d be up for it. Our song is “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts so we’ll either do that, or recreate the “Dirty Dancing” ending dance ;)

We got married New Year’s Eve, 2000. It was a teeny wedding with only a handful of guests. My mom passed away in 1994, so I just didn’t want anything big. Our processional song was The Beatles- I Will, but the version performed by Ben Taylor. And our recessional song was James Taylor- How Sweet It Is (to be Loved By You). We didn’t have a reception until 6 months later, in my husband’s hometown. Our first dance was also “I Will”. Since no one had been at the wedding, it made it feel special all over again.

The one I REALLY wanted was Otis Redding – “I Love You More Than Words Can Say,” but my husband is really picky when it comes to music. We agreed to his choice: Dan Auerbach (from The Black Keys) “When the Night Comes.”

We are dancing to All About Us by He is We. It is literally all about us on our wedding day and the song talks about dancing so it’s perfect. Look up the lyrics! And another good song by them is Skip to the good part. The words are perfect!

We’ll be dancing to “Starlight” by Muse. We’re both huge fans, so that it was perfect in a non-traditional kind of way.

My father also picked out “Cinderella” by Steven Curtis Chapman for the father/daughter dance, and I cried the first time I heard it. It’s an extremely sweet song for any girls who are close to their fathers.

Cake Cutting will be to the Vitamin String Quartet version of “1, 2, 3, 4″ by Plain White Tees. It’s beautiful.

Though we are not officially engaged, my boyfriend has been planning our potential wedding for awhile now, and we decided our first dance needed to be Jonathan Coulton’s You Ruined Everything. It’s a beautiful song about getting your life exactly how you want it, and then finding a person who just ensure that “perfect” life is not enough anymore. Aside from the fact that the song has given me goosebumps since the first time he played for me, we both have a pretty odd sense of humor and think the reaction to the title and opening lyrics will be priceless :)

Hubby and I have been married almost 20 years. We had a pretty cheesy song as one of our first – but it was special to us. The first time we ever danced together was at a friends wedding & it was to “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You”, we didn’t start dating until a few years later, but we both remembered that dance.

My husband and I had a small reception at the courthouse when we got married, but we’re renewing our vows in a couple years. I’ll walk down the aisle to our song, “Lucky” by Jason Mraz.
And I know it’s a little weird but “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley has always been such a special song to my husband and I. He would sing it for me when we first met and now I sing it to our daughter to lull her to sleep. When we renew our vows, it’ll definitely be our “first” dance song.

We didn’t have dancing at our wedding but we did make a CD of music to play at our wedding and two of the songs I considered our ‘wedding songs’.
The first was a John Michael Montgomery song, “I Swear” and the other was “From this Moment On” by Shania Twain. I just couldn’t pick between the two. I still love both.

My grandparents’ first dance was to Stand By Me by Ben E. King. They were married 42 years. My grandfather died a little over a year ago, and every time my nana hears that song, she dances around and cries. It means so much to me, and I am getting “Stand by me.” tattooed on my foot. My first dance song with my husband will be Stand by Me – Phillip Phillips’ cover. I want to use the same song with a twist because the song reminds me of a neverending love and that’s what I want and know I will have.

Our first dance song is God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton. It’s the song written about him & Miranda Lambert when they got married.
“God Gave Me You”

I’ve been a walking heartache
I’ve made a mess of me
The person that I’ve been lately
Ain’t who I wanna be

But you stay here right beside me
And watch as the storm blows through
And I need you

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you
Gave me you

There’s more here than what we’re seeing
A divine conspiracy
That you, an angel lovely
Could somehow fall for me
You’ll always be love’s great martyr
And I’ll be the flattered fool
And I need you
Yeah!

God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you

On my own I’m only
Half of what I could be
I can’t do without you
We are stitched together
And what love has tethered
I pray we never undo

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you, gave me you.
He gave me you.

But when my daughter and husband to be asked me to find her a song I found a perfect song that they both love. ‘Love is a gift’ by Olivia Newton-John (who wrote it) and Anthony Warlow from the Main Arena Album.

We are then going to have our first dance as two songs, first half will be Van Morrison ‘Have I told you lately that I love you’, followed by KISS ‘I was made for loving you’. We will definately get a few laughs with the second half, but a really good song to get everyone into a dancing mood!

Our first dance song was :
Return to Me by Dean Martin
This song is so beautiful..

The last song we had the DJ play was also by Dean Martin, Ain’t that a kick in the Head.. It was Fun to start with a romantic meaningful song and end with a funny meaningful one.. I recommend picking the last song that the musicians/DJ plays for the evening too..

If you’re looking for something a little beyond the secular tunes you usually hear, try Christian music. I never thought I’d become so attached! One of my favorites is Dara Maclean! “Forever Yours” is going to be our first dance for my fiance and I. She’s on YouTube…please check her out!

Courtney,

Would you be able to come up with seven or ten Christian songs that you’d love for the first dance? I’d be elated to write a post about it!

Thanks!

I want my wedding song to be Hard to Concentrate by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Reply

Annette July 26, 2012 at 9:17 am

When i got married (my husband chose the song I walked down the isle to)
Butterfly by Lenny Kravitz (not a dry eye in the place)

You are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen
You shine just like sunlight rays on a winter snow
I just had to let you know

My Girls walked down the isle to “Music of the Heart” N’Sync & Gloria Estafan

You’ll never know, what you’ve done for me
What your faith in me, has done for my soul
You’ll never know the gift you’ve given me
I’ll carry it with me, yeah yeah

Through the days ahead I’ll think of days before
You made me hope for something better
And made me reach for something more

When we were done we walked out to “Kiss of Life” by Sade

There must have been an angel by my side
Something heavenly led me to you
Look at the sky
It’s the color of love

Our first dance was “At Last” by Etta James

during the wedding I had the DJ dedicate a song to everyone that was there “Kind and Generous” by Natalie Merchant

Oh I want to thank you for so many gifts
You gave me love and tenderness
I want to thank you
I want to thank you for your generosity,
The love, and the honesty that you gave to me
I want to thank you, show my gratitude,
My love and my respect for you
I want to thank you

I’m in the process now of laying down the music for our wedding on August 18th (GAH!! 22 days!!). Our first dance is going to be Jason Mraz and Colbie Callait- Lucky. It’s “our” song, since we finally jumped from best friends to couple after being best friends for 10 years. the processional for my bridesmaids and MOH is going to be “Stolen” by Dashboard Confessionals, and my song coming down the aisle is going to be “Marry me” by train. We initially thought it’d be a bit much, but my fiancée agrees that the line “forever could never be long enough for me, to feel like I’ve had long enough with you” is just US. But I had seen on this thread the name of a band that does instrumental covers of songs, and I cannot find it for the life of me. HELP!!!

And our first dance was to “beauty and the beast”. We are big kids and love all different genres and Disney. :) we liked having a wide range of music.

My husband and I were married 11-years ago, our wedding song was “Feels Like Home” by Bonnie Raitt. Felt so appropriate because he and I had known each other most of our lives, our parents were great friends for the majority of our lives and then in our late 20′s we fell in love and it just felt like “home” whenever we were together. That song still makes me teary.

I walked down the aisle to John Lennon’s “Oh My Love” on my wedding day and our first dance was a classic – “When I Fall in Love” by Nat King Cole, but later at the end of the night for our last dance everyone surrounded us in a big circle and we danced to Ray Lamontagne’s “Shelter.” It was perfect:)

A Wink and a Smile, by Harry Connick Jr.

A cute, old, upbeat song. And SHORT because my husband hates to dance!

We danced to “thank you”.by Dido, we were married nine years ago but choose the song long before eminem did his version. When we first started dating my husband loved this song and one day said this will be my weeding song one day. I was not crazy about it until we were planning the wedding and the memory if him saying that made the song all that more special. It’s not a lovey song but more about being there no matter what!

My husband and I chose “Swept Away” (sentimental version) by the Avett Brothers for our first dance. Also, when we left the church, we had “Beginner’s Luck” by the Eels playing, which is fun because of the wedding bells ringing right before the chorus!

I am a development and relief worker for an NGO and this song resonates with me because of the line “we can change the world tomorrow” but right now I want to be with you. In my crazy career you never know where I can end up so enjoying every moment with him is to be treasured!

Hello, I was married on leap year of 2012. We kind of did an elope thing, but we are having a bigger wedding October of 2013. We have decided that I will walk down the aisle to marry me by train, my husbands sings it to me all the time. That song sends chills all over. And our first dance will be to the song he said was our song the first time we met, and that is Hootie and the blowfish only wanna be with you (:

I think Buddy Holly’s “True Love Ways” is the ideal first dance song. “Sometimes we’ll sigh, sometimes we’ll cry, but we’ll know why just you and I know know true love ways. Throughout the days, our true love ways will bring us joys to share with those who really care.” I mean, perfect, right?

- Let It Be Me – Ray LaMontagne
- I Wanna Be Your Everything – Keith Urban
- I Was Made To Love You – Gerald Levert
- I’m So Glad – Royal Wood

My friends used
- Be Mine – David Gray (amazing song!) but I can’t use that!

I found this on Pinterest. I think i am the first guy to replied.

Since my wife and I started dating, I would make a CD with one song and write “play me” then leave it for my wife somewhere to surprise her. The first song I gave her was “i never saw blue like that” by shawn colvin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQr2PKTROT8 So that was our wedding song…

For cutting the cake we used (she agreed to it) Ball and Chain by Social Distortion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NWjehpGSO0&feature=youtu.be&t=1m37s

I still give her songs now and then so I am set for the next year after some great suggestions.

Our first dance was to Peter Gabriel’s “The Book of Love”. It has such a romantic memory for me and I remember hearing the song for the first time thinking it described a little bit of each of us.
The one country song I wanted played at our wedding was Josh Turner’s “Would You Go With Me?” Such an upbeat song that makes me want to two-step all around the dance floor :)

Here’s the list of songs from our wedding which was October 2008:
Bridal Party Entrance: Yellow (instrumental)- Coldplay
My Entrance: We Belong Together- Gavin DeGraw
Bride and Groom Exit: I’m Yours- Jason Mraz
Our first Dance: I Wanna Grow Old with You- Adam Sandler from “The Wedding Singer”
Father/Daughter Dance: In My Life-The Beatles

We got so many compliments on our first dance choice of song. “The Wedding Singer” was the first dvd my husband (then boyfriend) and I purchased together and it’s always been a favorite, so we knew exactly the song to use when it came time to pick.

My husband and I had a 13-month engagement, but we picked our wedding song about 3-4 weeks prior to the wedding. I must’ve gone through 500 songs, at least, and he rejected them all. I even tried to repeat songs to see if he’d change his fickle mind, but no luck. In fact, the one he liked surprised me a lot: “Love is All Around” by Wet Wet Wet (I wanted the older version by the Troggs, he wanted Wet Wet Wet, and I conceded because, hey, we agreed on a song so who cares who sings it!).

I’m was quite fond of “More Than Anyone” by Gavin DeGraw and “Brighter than Sunshine” by Aqualung. Those were in my top favorites, but my husband rejected them because he was afraid he’d never hear them again after our wedding. He clearly doesn’t listen to my iPod.

After I got married a beautiful song came out (I actually just heard it about 2-3 months ago, but it’s a little older than that). If I had a do-over, THIS would be my wedding song: “All This Time” by OneRepublic. (Maybe it could be our anniversary song?) It’s absolutely beautiful:

“All this time we were waiting for each other
All this time I was waiting for you
We’ve got all this love, can’t waste it on another
So I’m straight in a straight line, running back to you”

We were limited as to what music we could use during the ceremony so we stuck to pretty traditional music. Our first dance was to “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis. When my husband told me he was falling for me, he wrote “Fools Rush In, I’m a fool” so we thought that would be just right for us. I also love “Here and Now” by Luther Vandross.

We’ve decided on Happy Together by The Turtles, but halfway through we’ve mixed it so it switches over to Simple Plan’s cover of Happy Together (my love and I have very different tastes in music and this is about the only way to represent that).

this was a constant pre-wedding struggle for me…we wanted to open the dance floor as quickly as possible (a quarter of our guest list was under the age of 12!)…so we had limited the dances and kept the songs short and sweet. Our first dance -Michael Buble – All I Do Is Dream of You was a nod to my musical loving family! For the father-daughter dance we chose a song that had a perfectly placed pause in the middle giving a wonderful ‘cut-in’ moment (he danced with his 2 daughters, and I danced with my uncles, since my father had passed away) – Father and Daughter, Paul Simon. OH and for the last song of the evening, we chose a Grateful Dead song – We Bid You Goodnight – PERFECT song to wrap things up (although I was AMAZED that it was already playing and that may official wedding day was done!).

For father and daughter dance (i want to introduce this as its not normally a tradition in the UK to have it. Dad hopefully would agree to it) I would love either

I don’t even know what the song was that we actually danced to. The D.J. tried to make it up to us by having us dance to “Grow Old With You” by Adam Sandler. Our processional was (a slightly slower version of) “At the Beginning” by Donna Lewis and Richard Marx. “In the end I want to be standing at the beginning with you.” The lyrics are beautiful. We had fun with the recessional; “Love is a Wonderful Thing” (Micheal Bolton) and our first dance was “You Were Meant for Me” by Gene Kelly. Everyone loved that we had unique songs. I didn’t want the typical pro/recessional songs that I find over used and annoying.

Being that this will be both of our second weddings, we are going a little non-traditional. I did the whole wedding march thing the first time and hated it. So, this time, I am walking down the aisle to “A Thousand Years”, The Piano Guys version of Christina Perri’s wonderful song.

Our first dance will be to Gloriana’s “Turn My World Around”. This is the song that my fiance and I were dancing to when he asked me to marry him. So, I couldn’t think of a better song to dance to as husband and wife.

My son will be walking me down the aisle (he will be almost 13), and I am fairly certain that I will be doing a mother/son dance with him, rather than a father/daughter dance. If anyone has any suggestions for songs, please let me know!

I am also wanting to do a mother/daughter dance with my mom. She raised me on her own, and after my first wedding, I realized that my dad got a lot more of me that day than he deserved. I did the father/daughter dance with him and my mom came out and danced with both of us (behind me) during it. It was a great moment for me, but no one got any pictures of it. This time, I want to honor my mom for everything that she has done for me and dance with her. Any ideas for that dance?

“I love you” by the Eli Young Band is a great song. I love the message behind it. Well my interpretation of it anyway. They sing about how many people do certain things to make them feel whole, but all i need is you. I love you. We both LOVE U2 so it would seem weird not having it. There’s one line in that song that rings true. “You say, you’ll give me, eyes in the moon of blindness.” I always tell him I’d give him my eyes if I could. My husband and I got married a year ago (August 18!) and our first song was “Angels” by the xx. We agonized over it until literally the Tuesday of our wedding week. The song debuted that day, and as soon as we heard it, we knew. Fortunately, our DJ was wicked awesome and made it happen! Nobody in my family really got it, but a couple of our friends had minor freakouts over the hipster wedding songs (we entered the reception to “Hoppipolla” by Sigur Ros, so the cred is well deserved). I can’t think of a better song for us to have danced to!

My deceased husband & I had it for our unity candle lighting, then we each had a rose and he went and gave my Mother one & I went and gave his Daughter one, then brought them both up with us for the joining of two families. I have to add my Mother was in a Nursing Home and that is where we had the wedding. My Mother was in a wheelchair and work so hard for 2 months because she wanted to be able to walk me down the aisle and she did it too (was so proud of her). We had everyone in there that could come and what a blast it was.

…In My Arms by Jon Foreman because we’re Switchfoot fans (Jon Foreman is the lead singer) and this song is very fitting for our relationship. (By the time we wed, over half of our relationship we will have spent long distance.)
…Closer by Jars of Clay because it’s another song very fitting of us — it’s a happy-go-lucky -kind of romance song.
…Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol — it’s our song, but we really like to keep intimate details of our love life private.
…OR Yellow by Coldplay because our first trip to the beach together and first time he sung to me, yellow is one of our wedding colors, and the freaking music video takes place on a beach, BUT we really like to keep intimate details of our love life private.

My son and I danced to My Wish by Rascal Flatts and his first dance with his bride was Smile by Uncle Kracker both were awesome!

“That’s where I want to take our Love” performed by George Strait- first dance
“Con te Partiro” better known as “Time to Say Goodbye” – Processional (Had to fight hard for this, explaining the lyrics, pointing out that it is an Italian song and has been performed at the Vatican. no singing and performed on church organ)
“Buck’s Nouvelle Jole Blon” performed by Buckwheat Zydeco- father/daughter
“Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” by Willie Nelson- tribute Grandparent’s song
“Dance me to the End of Love” by Leonard Cohen as he’s my husband’s favorite.

Our 1st dance was “Hold On” by Michael Buble. I walked down the aisle to “Crazy Love”, also by Michael Buble!

I’m walking down the aisle to in this moment with you by Shania twain and I’m letting my fiancé pick out our first dance and have him tell the dj and everything so I won’t even know what it is until we have our first dance. I want him to have the moment.

My hubby and I got married 35 years ago this year, and our song was “the Rain Song” by Led Zepplin… 10 years later my sister married with the same song and this year my son is getting married and he also chose a Led Zepplin song…. thank You …
Timeless…..

A favorite from my wedding’s playlist is “Lovesong” by Adele. The lyrics are fitting, and there’s a gorgeous instrumental in there, too.

I’m getting married in October and still haven’t fully decided on the songs for the reception. (Shame on me, right?) I DO know that we will be using “I don’t dance” by Lee Brice. Perfect for us considering my fiance is not a fan of dancing and we have never in 10 years danced together in public. I’m EXCITED!

I meant I haven’t decided on songs for the ceremony lol, not reception. A few we have in mind are “Love of a lifetime”- firehouse, “I won’t give up on us”- Jason Mraz, “Nothing else matters”- Metallica. Lee Brice and Metallica? Yes, we love a wide range of music haha.
