Fit to be Bride, Week 2: Frustrations. Triumphs. and a GIVEAWAY!

by jaime on August 15, 2012

I can say two things with absolute certainty:

1. I’m glad I’m working out.
2. I’m glad I started so early before the wedding.

The first one is pretty self-explanatory, but the second? It’s because I always end up in this awkward state of fitness limbo around 6 weeks into working out. I go hard, but all the muscles I’m building make the excess fat (that normally hid itself quite well) come out and play. It’s frustrating and a bit of a downer.

Still, it’s oh-so-important to stick with it and keep going! Here’s what last week – a big success week! – looked like for me:

Monday: Cardio
Tuesday: TRX Class (I can’t recommend TRX enough – I’m ALWAYS super sore afterwards, so I know something is going right!)
Wednesday: Cardio
Thursday: Weights – leg and butt
Friday: Cardio
Saturday: Weights – arms and core

My eating, however, was a total bust. It happens, I know, but I’m working on improving this week. I’ve stocked up on the Starbucks Via Refreshers (which I just adore!) and more lean meat (like the sushi above from Yatai Sushi Cart in Denver!). I’m also focused on another solid week of workouts (it’s Wednesday, and I’m already three days down!). I’d love to know how my other brides (and FTTBers, wherever you are!) are holding up!

And for a little bit of motivation… I wanted to share with you one of my hair tricks for working out. Meet Kitsch, my new all-time favorite hair bands. I use them every day at the gym. They’re one of the few hairbands I’m cool with having on my wrist. I even plan on giving a pack to each of my bridesmaids – specifically the sparkly ones!

Awesome workout that you posted, way to go! Keep it up. I think it is difficult sometimes to start a new fitness regime and be super healthy at the same exact time. Once you get started with one, the other follows a bit later, but it happens!
My getting in shape usually has to have a tangible goal. I used to be a huge runner (by huge I mean enthusiastic, not size :) and my interest has waned over the years. I signed myself up for a half-marathon in October and I am really trying to clean up my eating and do a lot of yoga to go with it. I am normally a pretty healthy eater, but I love wine – and I find that drinking any kind of alcohol makes me sluggish. I am also working hard to avoid dairy and gluten while training because I have more energy when I do. I have a goal time in mind for this race and my ultimate goal is to continue the motivation by signing up for a race so that I am doing one, preferably a half-marathon or marathon, every 4-6 months. My health and fitness goals are just going to pay off in time for the wedding and keep me motivated to run through the long Chicago winter.

Alcohol and dairy (specifically cheese. Oh, how I LOVE cheese!) make me sluggish too, so I’m with you there.

I’m also trying out the Nourish Daily meal replacement from Clean – I’ll let you know how it is!

Yes! Please do. Cheese is also my weakness, I love it all.
