Four tips for kissable lips on your wedding day!

by jaime on February 25, 2013

Beautiful lips are important for your wedding day, because you’ll be doing a lot of kissing! Plus, pretty lips look better on camera than tired/dry ones. So, without further ado, here are my top four tips for amazingly kissable lips on your wedding day, along with recommendations on products to buy AND a DIY lip scrub!

Tip #1: Use a lip exfoliant – I like to make my own here! The recipe I use is a spin-off from this one on Pretty Gossip – I use coconut oil instead of olive oil. Here are the ingredients:

– 1 tbsp sugar (regular white sugar or cane sugar)
– 1 tbsp honey
– 1 tsp coconut oil (melted and cooled)
– 1 tsp Waxelene

Mix them all together – there should be a slightly grainy texture.  Apply to your lips a few times daily within the next two weeks (and keep this in the fridge during that time. Throw this out after two weeks!), scrub and rinse it off. Follow up with lip balm or another type of…

Tip #2: Moisturize – We use Waxelene ALL THE TIME in my house, and I can’t recommend it enough as a lip balm/moisturizer. The list of things you can use it for is immense and amazing. We’ve had the 9oz. jar for over a year now, and it’s still half full after daily use (from two people!). I love that it only has four natural ingredients, making it safe for anyone with skin allergies. Since it doesn’t come in a size to carry around in a clutch, I also highly recommend the following lip balms:

Coola LipLux Balm
Murad Soothing Skin Lip and Cuticle Care
La Mer The Lip Balm
–  Clinique SuperBalm

Tip #3: Avoid plumping glosses – I’ll be the first one to admit that I totally and utterly adore plumping glosses, even with my naturally full lips. But these magic plumpers tear your lips up by expanding and irritating. Avoid using these for at least two weeks before the wedding to keep your lips kissably fresh and soft.

Tip #4: Hydrate with lots of water –  This one seems like a no-brainer, but don’t discount the importance of a healthy, nourished and hydrated body when it comes to beautiful lips. I keep a carafe of lemon water next to me at my desk so I’m less tempted to snack when I don’t need to (or drink juice/soda when I’m bored). With lemon water though, make sure you’re using a straw – the acid in lemons can eat at your enamel, and great teeth also help your lips look kissable!

What secrets do you have for getting beautiful lips before your wedding?

Love,
Jaime
