I happen to have a bit of a jealous streak that rears its ugly head on occasion. I’m working on it. But I’ve never been able to wrap my mind around a bachelor/bachelorette party being the “LAST SINGLE NIGHT!!!” It’s not, you haven’t been single since you started dating this person.
That said, I can’t say I’d be entirely comfortable with my future husband getting complimentary lap dances or whatever. I know this might be a skewed version of reality, since in my head, all fraternities are filled with loud guys wearing viking helmets and pillow cases as togas, but whatever. Plus, I’ve always liked the idea of celebrating as a couple. When I find a guy who doesn’t suck enough to suit my standards, I imagine that he’ll be my best friend. And I like hanging out with my best friends. So here are some ideas for you to do with your girls AND your guys.
1. Baseball Game
Again, it’s that time of year, and I am so excited. Baseball games are fun, period, but I think they’re even better when you’re with a group of people you really care about. For some reason, I’ve always romanticized the clean crack of the bat when it comes into contact with a fastball, and movies like “A League of Their Own” and “Field of Dreams”, among others, have enhanced that sentiment for me.
2. Comedy Show
I’ve mentioned this before but it deserves repetition. My favorite thing to do in this town with my best friend is go to ComedySportz. Literally everyone loves it, and it doesn’t matter if we go by ourselves, if we go with her husband, or if we go with a huge group of people, it’s always a blast.
3. Music and Dancing
Whether it’s blues, jazz, hip hop, whatever, it’s fun to go out and dance around. Find a venue that you think would provide everyone with a good time and go twist the night away (or twerk the night away, whichever way your sensibilities lean).
4. Girls vs. Boys
I think it’d be a lot of fun to get all your guys together, and all your girls together, and have a girls vs. guys game of ultimate frisbee, wiffle ball, flag football, whatever. A little friendly competition is always an awesome bonding experience, and then you can all go out for drinks afterwards.
5. P-p-p-poker night
Pretty self explanatory. You might add a twist by making it more “Casino Royale” and less “ESPN2”, requiring spiffy attire and martinis.
